01
Complimentary 30-minute phone consultation for parents to inquire about counselling for their child and to request additional information about therapeutic services.
02
An 90-minute meeting for parent(s), without their child, to discuss parental concerns, clarify their child’s needs, and to identify developmentally appropriate, concrete, and specific treatment goals to ensure a successful therapeutic outcome.
03
initial counselling
session with child
Parents will be invited to join their child in session for the first 5 to 10 minutes. This session will focus on building rapport, exploring the counselling environment, establishing boundaries around safety and trust, and clarifying any questions and hesitancies.
04
Ongoing counselling sessions
After the first session, 50-minute sessions will be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly. Counselling can be arranged for in-office, online, or home-based attendance. The length of treatment varies with every child, but most children will complete a minimum of 10 sessions.
05
parent consultations
After every five counselling sessions, a progress meeting will be arranged between myself and the parents without the child present. This meeting is an opportunity to review a child's progress in session, to set new goals, and to provide parents with ongoing support, all while ensuring the child’s confidentiality is upheld at all times.
06
termination
When it has been determined that all treatment goals have been met and all a child's symptoms have subsided for a stable period of time, the counselling process will need to come to an end. A closing plan will be developed with the help of both the parent(s) and the child to effectively prepare and adjust for adequate functioning at home, in school, and out in the community.
