Practice Approach

The Mindful Maple strives to provide a safe and supportive space for children ages 5 to 12 years ofage who are experiencing difficulties associated with anxiety-related disorders and general anxious thoughts and feelings in their daily lives.

In addition to providing children with the tools necessary to enable them to effectively cope with the daily demands of living with worry and/or fear, The Mindful Mindful continually strives to meet and exceed clients' expectations of respect and confidentiality. It is my belief that an effective therapeutic outcome is best achieved through a client-counsellor relationship that is built on empathy, respect, trust, and genuineness.

To provide a welcoming and secure environment that responds to the needs of each client, The Mindful Maple vows to respect and honour individuality, multiculturalism, and diversity. The Mindful Maple values the diversity of humanity and its abundance of differences in age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin, mental and physical health and ability, social and economic status, and religion.

Services

At some point, all children have and/or will experience stress and anxiety. Today, there are more reasons than ever for children to be anxious. Anxiety, whether or not diagnosed as a disorder, is the most common mental health concern among today's children and youth. However, it is often difficult to recognize a child who is struggling with anxious thoughts and/or feelings. Anxious children often don't have the vocabulary to communicate their feelings, which can manifests itself in many ways, such as negative or disruptive behaviour, increased caregiver attachment, physiological complaints, avoidance, and significant distress.

The SILVER LINING...anxiety is very treatable with high success rates in children and youth. Treatment outcome is especially effective when a child engages in early intervention, helping the child to manage their anxiety by providing emotional support, effective coping skills, cognitive strategies to challenge anxious thoughts, and behavioural strategies to manage physical symptoms of anxiety. With services available for children 5 to 12 years of age, The Mindful Maple focuses its efforts on ensuring your child is receiving the appropriate services to best address his or her unique needs.

I'd like to help your child take back their childhood - with his or her ONLY worry being how to be a child.

Success Stories

”Michelle is a gifted counsellor with a warm, gentle approach. My 6 year old daughter came to Michelle after experiencing difficulties at home and at school. Michelle worked with my daughter to cope with her anxiety and give her the necessary tools to manage her big feelings. In addition, she provided me with the reassurance and support needed as a parent of an anxious child and gave me strategies and valuable insight. My daughter has returned to her old bubbly, confident self and I couldn’t be more grateful."

“My son's time in counselling has proven very beneficial in helping him manage his anxiety, both at home and in school. Michelle is fun, kind, and easily connected with my son. It is such a breath of fresh air to see how much our child has transformed from being so anxious and unsure, into the confident and optimistic child he is now. I highly recommend parents to reach out to Michelle with any concerns of their anxious child."

"Our daughter was struggling to settle into a new school and was having difficulty working through and expressing her emotions. We recognized that she was very anxious on a daily basis and quickly began to decline in school and with her behaviours at home. Attending counselling with Michelle has helped our child process the feelings and emotions that she had been struggling with to adjust to her new surroundings. She very much looks forward to her weekly counselling session with Michelle and has built a strong relationship with her. Our daughter is now much happier, settled in her school, and more confident making new friends."
